34th National Arms wrestling championship at Khuman Lampak

IMPHAL, Aug 3: The 34th senior, junior, master & handicapped national arms wrestling championship, 2010 will kick off from tomorrow at the Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak. The championship will continue till August 8.

Around 400 players representing different arms wrestling associations from various corners of the country are expected to take part in the championship apart from about 100 officials, according to sources.

Host Manipur will be represented by 68 players and 17 officials, highest number of participants in the championship. Assam followed Manipur with 62 players and officials while Chattisgarh will be fielding 51 players including the officials.
Despite of transportation problem in the state, so far 10 team have reached Imphal as of today and some of the teams are said to be on the way.

A 13 member team of Andhra Pradesh reached Imphal today. Others that reached Imphal today were Assam, Chattisgarh, Delhi (23 players and two officials), Kerala (22 player and three officials), MP (15 player cum officials), Punjab (13 player and three officials), Uttaranchal (10 player and two official), Vidarbha (6 player and four officials).

On the opening day tomorrow weighing of players will be performed which will be followed by the opening ceremony to be presided by the chief minister.
The competition for various weight categories will be commence from tomorrow evening.

In the meantime, the Nagaland team which had earlier intimated the organizing committee about their desire to abstain from the championship due to the prevailing situation in Manipur has now informed that their team will take part in the national championship.

Manipur is expecting to pick up overall champion in the women section but mens section too is expected to be amongst the top medal contender. Kerala is likely to fare well in the mens section.

  1. i am a great fan of arm wrestling. i feel very happy to see these kind of events. it should be organise
    once in a month to motivate the players. so that players get in tounch with this
    sports. i am also a national champion from delhi. Hope national championship
    will organise as soon as possible so that me and my team can take a part of it.
