IMPHAL, Aug 20: The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisaton (AMUCO) in a press release have sought appropiate action from the State and Centre to safeguard the interest of the truckers plying along both national highway 39 and 53. Publicity Secretary of AMUCO NC. Modhuchandra stated that the state and the residents have been reeling under the effects of economic blockade imposed by certain organisations for their own interests.

He further stated that the centre had promised that truckers will be safe along the highway as there is adequate number of security personnel including the CRPF remaining vigilant to prevent untoward incidents.

whereas the reimposition of the20 day blockade which started from the 4th of this month have also renewed the sufferings of the public. The promise of safe passage by the centre to keep the highway safe by providing a highway protection force have been compromised as unidentified persons representing some organisations have started collecting illegal taxes from the trucks plying along the NH 39 at present and further damage have been incurred to nearly 300 trucks and 3 drivers have sustained injuries of late, the statement said.

Such unresonable actions along the highway clearly indicates that the centre is lagging behind in the safeguarding of the trucks transporting essential commodities to the state and the Government needs to address the situation at the earliest in the interest of the public, the statement concluded.
