IMPHAL, Aug 29: Irom Chanu Sharmila the “Iron Lady of Manipur” has been conferred with the Rabindranath Tagore Peace Prize by the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), New Delhi to honor her courageous and determined struggle for peace in Manipur.
A team of the IIPM which includes the founder Director of IIPM and the Chairman of the selection Committee, Dr. Malay Chauduri along with other officials will personally visit Sharmila to confer upon her the prestigious award. The team is likely to come on Tuesday, August 31.
The award includes a sum of Rs. one lakh along with a Gold Medal and a Citation.
The Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Prize, was instituted to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the poet in 2011. The award will be conferred on individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution in the areas of people’s economics/ people-centric management/ literature/ peace. The prize will be funded by a consortium of institutes and universities in Asia and Europe. The first Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Prize will be awarded in May 2012 on the birthday of the poet.
It is an excellent recognisation of the “Iron Lady of Manipur ” Irom Sharmila Chanu who sacrifies her life for the human right. Indeed it a great work of IIPM Selection Team. Thanks & please ack.
