IMPHAL, Aug 29: The Manipuri society will be in complete mess if many corrupt contractors enter the political arena of the state in the name of delivering social service to the people, said opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam during a one-day ward-wise political conference organized by the Nationalist Youth Congress Committee of Thangmeiband A/C today at Naothingkhong Shanglen, Thangmeiband, Imphal.
The opposition leader further stated that the development of the state has been drastically hampered by the interference of many anti-social elements in the society. The lust for money and power has driven many people to the wrong path thereby affecting the whole social setup, he noted.
The people should not be influenced by money power at the time of election. They should be cautious while electing the representatives who will work for their cause all the time. The people of Mizoram under the strict norms of Mizo Youth Front have been able to elect their representatives without any influence of money power in the recent general election, Radhabinod asserted.
Highlighting some of the achievements of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) which is an ally of the Congress led UPA government, he stated that the National president of NCP, Sharad Pawar who holds the portfolio of agriculture, food and civil supplies as Union Cabinet Minister has been working for the welfare of the farmers as well as common people by ensuring food security in the country.
Another dynamic leader of NCP, Praful Patel who is also the Union Minister of State for civil aviation has improved the air transport system all over the country including the northeastern states, he noted.
Remarkably, the youngest Union Minister of the country, Agatha Sangma has also taken up many programmes for the development of rural areas of the country with special emphasis on the NE states, Radhabinod said.
He also stated that unlike any other national party of the country, the Nationalist Congress Party, Manipur Unit, has been functioning independently with maximum support and least command from the national leaders of the party. The state unit is free to do anything according to local convenience rather than going by the national perspective, he added.
Radhabinod also appealed to the youths to be punctual and sincere in their works so that they can become good future pillars of the society.
The president of the NCP Thangmeiband A/C, H. Bimola said that the youths of the state should be made to play constructive roles in the society to wean them away from the problems of drug abuse and militancy.
The conference was also attended by Ch. Dinachandra, president TKDC, N. Mobi, vice-president of TKDC, RK Chandrajit, secretary TKDC, and a large number of youth members of NCP Ward No. 1 of Thangmeiband A/C.
