IMPHAL, Aug 30: Ultra modern mode of imparting education to the young students through satellite communication system, Tele-education, was launched officially by education minister L Jayentakumar today at Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Imphal.
The department of education (S) has earlier decided to commence Tele-education at five government higher secondary schools of the state, namely Tamphasana Higher Secondary School, Churachand Higher Secondary School, Chouyaima Higher Secondary School, Bishnupur Higher Secondary School and Ukhrul Higher Secondary School under which the students currently reading in Class XII standard aspirants of medical and engineering professions will get utmost benefits from the interactive mode of education that will be hosted by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Speaking at the launching function, education minister Jayentakumar stated that the launching of tele-education is a remarkable achievement for the state through which the students would get utmost benefits of a modern distant learning education.
He further stated that the five schools of the state have been included among 68 centres of tele-education in the country and Manipur is the fourth state in the North-East to have such facility of e-learning.
The state is moving towards a new era of technological development with the launching of tele-education at TG Higher Secondary School, Jayentakumar noted.
At least 25-30 students of science stream will be selected from each centre on merit basis. The selected students will be made to deposit a refundable fee of Rs 1000 each to their respective centres and they will also be provided with free study materials, he stated.
Education minister also appealed to all to render utmost help and support to the education department while implementing various education schemes in the state.
The launching function was also attended by MLAs Prithiviraj, I Ibohanbi and Ng. Bijoy Singh apart from director of education (S), T Ranjit.
However, the online interaction programme which was supposed to be held between education minister L Jayentakumar and director of NIC, New Delhi, as a part of the launching programme of tele-education could not be accomplished due to power failure.
