IMPHAL, Aug 28: Ahead of the “all India workers’ strike” called by various central trade unions on September 7, the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Unit, organized a one-day workers’ convention today at Kuki Inn, Imphal.
The convention was attended by H. Mahadevan, deputy general secretary of AITUC, and L. Sotinkumar, general secretary of AITUC, Manipur, as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the convention, H. Mahadevan stated the workers all over the country have unanimously decided to call all India general strike on September 7 against unprecedented price rise and other economic problems related to labour laws.
He said that as many as six crores employees belonging to different sectors of the country will participate in the said strike which will open the blind eyes of the Union government.
Mahadevan further stated that the workers of the country will raise their voice against all forms of economic injustice and vices. They will stand unitedly to uphold their rights, he added.
The general secretary of AITUC, Manipur, L. Sotinkumar stated that the workers of the state will take part actively in the general strike called by various central trade unions on September 7.
He said that the AITUC has been working for the welfare of the workers of the country. It stands totally against unprecedented price rise and other economic problems like non-enforcement of labour laws and disinvestment of profit making PSUs, Sotin asserted.
A large number of workers belonging to different sectors of the state participated in today’s workers’ convention.
