IMPHAL, Aug 28: An empty truck heading towards Dimapur side on the NH-39 bearing number NL-01(A) 2241 was set on fire by unknown suspected economic blockade supporters in between Taphou Kuki and Mt. Everest School under Senapati district police station this afternoon at about 12:40 pm.

The front portion of the truck was completely burned during the fire. The Senapati district police has registered a case for further investigation and for stopping further occurrence of such incidents.

In the meantime, security frisking and checking along NH-39 as well ROP were also tightened by the concerned police and Central forces.

Around 143 empty trucks have also left Imphal whereas around 83 loaded trucks were brought to Imphal by the security personnel.

It may be recalled that from August 24 another 25 days of economic blockade had been called by the United Naga Council due to the failure of the government to fulfill their demands.

The demands are removal of ‘wanted’ tags and fixing of rewards imposed on two Naga leaders, UNC and ANSAM. There is also a demand for the dissolution of the Autonomous District Councils which it termed as undemocratically instituted.
