IMPHAL, Aug 18: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) while reiterating its agreement reached between the transporters in several sittings to reduce the passenger fare to its earlier rate, appealed to the transporters to comply with the agreement failing which any consequences arising out of it will be individual responsibility.
A statement released by the UCM said that several meetings with various transporters in the state were held with the UCM, on July 17, August 2, and August 16 after reviewing the ground situation. The meeting agreed that the transporters would reduce their passenger rate after the open sale of Petroleum products. As open sale has been started in the state it appealed to the transporters societies and association to reduce their fare and also appealed to the public to pay the actual rate as it used to be before the petroleum scarcity.
It said that the UCM are aware of the hardship face by the transporters due to the situation and moreover due to the 6th pay recommendation, however, it appealed to the transporter to stick to the agreement until the state Transport department fixed an official rate. The UCM will also extend its full co-operation to make sure that the government make arrangements for fixing the fare at the earliest.
While stating that violating an understanding is unfortunate, it also appealed to the transporters in Thoubal district to comply with the agreement in public interest.
