IMPHAL, Aug 18: A press release by Khuman Leisemcha, district committee member and Secretary in-charge of Information and Publicity department of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak has stated that one Nongmaithem Sunil, son of Monbihari of Ningthoukhong Ward No. 7 has been extorting money from the general public in collusion with police commandos in the name of the outfit.
The statement alleged that Monbihari with the help of Bishnupur police commandos extorted Rs. 50,000 from Tata Magic Association plying from Imphal to Bishnupur at gunpoint and also threatened members of the KCP(MC) by identifying himself as Lakpa alias Chingkheinganba of the UPPK. He also extorted a sum of Rs. 7000 from a jewellery shop located at Ningthoukhong Thokchom Leikai on July 9 in the guise of the outfit’s Bishnupur district finance commander Nongdrenkhomba Meitei.
The statement further stated that the charges leveled on the UPPK regarding the incident by KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman publicity officer Washington Meitei is not related with the UPPK, or its armed wing, the Kangleipak People’s Army. The statement warned that Nongmaithem Sunil should approach the UPPK for clarification within five days.
