IMPHAL, Sep 9: The silver jubilee of the 23rd Assam Rifles was celebrated at Shangsak headquarter in Ukhrul district from September 5 to 8. A meena bazaar was also opened at the celebration site in connection with the silver jubilee.
The meena bazaar included a health camp, weapons display, cultural show and was attended by a large number of people from the surrounding hills. The CO of the 23rd Assam Rifles CD Singh while speaking to the mediapersons stated that Shangshak, Shangshak Khullen, Koso, Leisi, Leiting, Phalang etc. depend on the Assam Rifles for their water supplies, electricity, generators, transportation and other necessities. The AR carries out medical camps once in a while to help the villagers meet their health needs, he said.
The Assam Rifles also provides the children in the villages vocational training and other education. As the region is a malaria zone, the AR carries out fogging operations also in the area, the CO said.
Iftaar party celbrated at Yairpok
IMPHAL Sept 9: Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under aegis of HQ IGAR (south) organized Ramazan get together and Iftar to all its local populace in the AOR. Before the Iftar party namaz was recited by approx 60 attendants. During the Iftar party, various problems faced by the villagers and other social issues were also discussed. All the attendants praised efforts carried out by the battalion in spreading harmony and respecting the religious sentiments of all communities and appreciated the first ever Iftar party organized by the Assam Rifles. The event highlighted the aim of Yaripok post towards “WHAM” and was a major step towards building cordial relations with the local populace according the statement of PRO IGAR south.
