Lamka, Sep 14 : The opening ceremony of (L) Hav Thangzalet Memorial Football Tournament was held today at the public ground from 7:30 am.
Altogather 13 teams has participated in the tournament and will last till 23rd of this month . It is being conducted by the AR based at Ccpur.
In todays inaugural functions Commanders 27 Sector Headquarters Brig Surrendra Mehta graced as chief guest . CO of the 2nd AR, 30 AR , 33 AR besides MDC`s , church leaders , community leaders with student organisation have taken part in the functions .
Thangzalet has been a recipients of SHURYA CHAKRA awards from the President of India posthumously for his gallantry while fighting against the UG`s in Tamenglong district last year .The award was received by his wife Hatkhochin on the 9th April 2010 from the president at Rahtrpati Bhavan.
Thangzalet won the award for killing two UG`s at Tamenglong areas in a fierce encounter near the Khongbung ground on the 13th May 2009 at around 1030 hours while they were going there for area domination.
The Ug`s retaliated resulting in a fierce encounter which caused him severe injuries . He was asked by his buddies to pull back to a safer location but he choose better not to and keep on firing the UG`s . In the process he injured two more UG`s . He later died due to profused bleedings.
