IMPHAL, Sep 6: Decrying the problems of price rise and other anti-workers’ policies adopted by the government, various trade unions of the country, namely AITUC, CITU, HMS, INTUC, UTUC, AICCTU, AIUTUC, LPF and other independent federations have called for a 12-hour general strike all over the country tomorrow from 6 am to 6 pm.
The Coordination Committee of Trade Unions, Manipur, is also prepared to make the general strike successful in the state tomorrow.
A release of the Coordination Committee of Trade Unions, Manipur, said that all together six crore employees belonging to different sectors of the country are expected to join the all India general strike called against unprecedented price rise, non-implementation of labour laws, abolition of profit-making public sector undertakings, non-development of national highways, problems of unemployment and torture of workers and common people.
The coordination committee has also taken up all necessary steps to make the general strike successful in the state tomorrow. All educational and business establishments including banks and airports will remain closed tomorrow, it said.
The committee further stated that the general strike has been called against black marketeers and corrupt bureaucrats who have violated the rights of the common people and workers. The volunteers of various organizations in all districts of the state have been alerted to confront anyone who tries to thwart the strike, the release stated.
The coordination committee will also organize sit-in protest demonstrations at state electricity office, Kwakeithel and Imphal Dharmasala.
The Janata Dal (Secular), Manipur State Unit, and All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers’ Union will also support the general strike called by different trade unions tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the state authorities have taken up special security measures in and around Imphal city and other district headquarters to prevent any trouble during the bandh.
