Manipur a mini-India, CM tells Muslims on Eid

IMPHAL, Sep 11: The holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated today by the Muslim community of Manipur in different parts of the state with great pomp and fanfare.

The Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated just after the holy month of Ramadan during which the followers of Islam remain on fast everyday during day time and break the fast after the daylight fades in what is known as “Iftaar”.

A large number of people belonging to Muslim and other communities including chief minister O. Ibobi and RD and PR minister Md. Allauddin Khan took part in the Eid-ul-Fitr festival held at Sangaiyumpham Jama Masjid, Thoubal district.

Speaking at the gathering, chief minister Ibobi appealed to all the people to shed off communal feelings and work for peace and prosperity in the state.

He further stated that Manipur is like a “Mini India” where different communities having different cultures and religions live together in communal harmony.

The Muslim people of Keirao A/C, Changamtabi under Andro A/C, Hatta, Golapati, Khabeisoi, Lilong, Kwakta and other areas celebrated the festival in a grand manner.

The offering of mass prayers at the Mosques and grand feasts comprising of a variety of mouth-watering dishes, especially of a sweet dessert “Sawei” marked the festivities of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
