IMPHAL, Sep 16: The Manipur University authority is trying to reconstitute the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) as soon as possible in the interest of the students, said Prof. Th. Ratankumar, dean of students’ welfare, Manipur University during a press conference held this afternoon at his office chamber.

The dean further stated that the reconstitution of MUSU will be done in compliance with the formulation of new acts and rules of the University and in due course of time the students’ body will be formed in the real interest of the students of Manipur University.

Expressing discontentment over the decision of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to hold the zonal youth festival much ahead of the normal schedule, Prof. Ratankumar said that the Manipur University had to organize the inter-college youth festival within a short duration of time. Some colleges like Don Bosco, Maram, Pettigrew College and Mt. Everest College located in the far flung areas of the state could not participate in the festival owing to delay in the posting of official notice and communication gap, he said.

The number of participants could have been more if the three districts of Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul had taken part in the festival, the dean observed.

He said that altogether 19 colleges including PG classes of MU participated in the youth festival that concluded today at the Centenary Hall of the University. The winners in various events of the youth festival will participate in the upcoming east-zone inter-university youth festival to be held at Kailani University, West Bengal, from September 23 to 27.

All preparations for the forthcoming zonal youth festival will be made and the Manipur University team will leave Imphal on September 20, Prof. Ratankumar noted.
