Old Cachar Road to be converted to NH-53 (A)

IMPHAL, Sep 25: The historical Old Cachar Road which is popularly known as ‘Tongjei Maril’ would soon be converted into NH-53 (A) in view of developing the road from the Prime Minister’ s package through the North-Eastern Council (NEC), stated re-elected president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Gaikhangam during his reception function organized by Bishnupur Block Congress Committee today at Ningthoukhong Community Hall.

Gaikhangam further stated that Rs. 86 crores have been earmarked by the Central government for the purpose of developing the Old Cachar Road which connects Bishnupur district with Jiribam via the Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district.

He also said that the Congress-led SPF government has been working for the development of both hill and valley areas of the state. The Congress Party being secular and liberal always desire the peaceful co-existence of all communities in the country, Gaikhangam asserted.

He said that some narrow minded people of the state are trying to tarnish the image of Manipur, which has been acclaimed as ‘ Sanaleibak’ meaning ‘ the land of gold’ for its prosperity and resourcefulness over a period of thousand years.

The Congress Party in its 125 years of existence in the country has been upholding the trust and confidence of the people, and the Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been able to sway the Party in the right direction, the MPCC president noted.

Further, he said that everyone should develop a sacrificing spirit for the betterment of the nation and state rather than creating troubles to the society.

Gaikhangam also warned the people to stay away from anti-social people who try to mar peace and tranquility of the state, and urged the people to render political support to the Congress Party and let O. Ibobi form a stable government even in the next general election of the state.

Speaking at the reception function, MLA Govindas Konthoujam stated that the Congress under the leadership of Ibobi and Gaikhangam has been able to establish a popular government in the state. The Party has also been working to bridge the gap between the hill and valley people, he said.

He also announced that 10 community halls in Bishnupur area will soon be inaugurated in a day along with the implementation of various schemes like rain water harvesting and solar lighting system.

Govindas also stated that the youths of Bishnupur district will be encouraged in the filed of games and sports by constructing many playgrounds and providing sports kits.

The reception function was also attended by MPCC vice-president S. Achouba, MPCC secretary Sashikanta, MPCC secretary Jiten, DCC president S. Budhachandra, BCC president Ch. Ibotombi and other Congress workers.
