Imphal, Sept 19: Thingnam Girija a flower enthusiast from Manipur has been awarded Young Achiever Award 2010 in New Delhi today . Girija,a special educator by profession and has a masters degree in psychology,received the Award instituted by the North-East Centre for Environmental Education and Research, Imphal, for her contribution towards the promotion of biodiversity and environment of the country. The award was presented at the inaugural function of the NECEER`s Environment Lecture Series, at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi today.Her association with Dr Tabish Qureshi led to the creation of the website www.flowersofindia.net, which is a one of its kind of site on the flora of the country.
Thingnam Girija is a flower enthusiast, and hails from the state of Manipur, tucked away into the north-east corner of India. She is a special educator and has a Masters degree in psychology, and a Diploma in Special Education (Autism).
She is in love with flowers, and a huge lot of the pictures on the site are by her. She grew up close to mother nature and that has had its effect. She may not be familiar with botanical names, but she possesses a hawk’s eye for flowers. (Source: flowersofindia.net)
