Imphal, Sep 6: In connection with the proposed plan for the establishment of a separate Forest University for the North Eastern states, BM Jha, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Regional Office Shillong, Government of India arrived in the state capital yesterday for site inspections.
According to a highly placed official source, the Ministry of Forest and Environment has already recommended the establishment of separate Forest University for the North Eastern states and the present visit of BM Jha is part of the Central government’s initiative to start site inspections in the state and other north eastern states.
The source further mentioned that the visiting Central officer conducted site inspections since yesterday along with officials of the state Forest department in many areas.
In the meantime, taking the opportunity of the visiting Central forest officer a meeting of the State Level Working Plan Committee of the state Forest Department was convened today in the presence of BM Jha.
The official source further mentioned that the meeting mainly discussed the developmental activities which are being taken up in the three major forest divisions of the state during this current financial year and revenue components of the state Forest department.
On the other hand, the visiting officer will visit Moreh tomorrow as a part of his inspection tour and will leave for Guwahati on September 8, the source added.
