IMPHAl, Oct 11: Due to incessant rains in the last few days, there was a breach which took place in the embankment of Imphal river due to which the area of Hafta Gola Patti and New Chekhon got inundated. Troops of Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) were rushed for relief of local populace. Thereafter, Relief Camps at both locations were established where people were provided with shelter, food, water and medical facilities round the clock.
According am official statment of the PRO IGAR (South), a team of engineers alongwith two boats was also deployed at the camp sites which was tasked in plugging up the gap.
The statement further mentioned that, similarly, breach in Thoubal river caused floods in Kaibang and Moijing areas of Thoubal district. Proactively, 15 Assam Rifles carried out flood relief effort in these villages. The unit extended a helping hand by providing the flood affected families of the villages with adequate rations, drinking water and medicines. Cooked food was also served to a strength of approximately 100 people the statement added.
