IMPHAL, Oct 29: Five hardcore militants laid down their arms formally before the IG Asam Rifles (South) yesterday.
In a press release, the the IGAR said the 8th and 31th Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under IGAR (South) motivated five hardcore militants to shun violence and join the mainstream during a formal surrender ceremony yesterday.
It said a formal ceremony was held in the regard at the headquarters of the IGAR South Mantri Pukhri in the presence of state DGP, Y Joykumar Singh.
The surrenderees include three from the banned militant outfit KCP(MTF) (Kangleipak CommunistParty), No.11134 SS Pvt Inaobi Singh,son of Ibohal of Waiheng Khuman(Nambol),No.11005, SS Pvt Mangkhanpao,son of, Ginjakhoup, of Behang, No.11136, SS Pvt Govind Singh,Angou, of, Waiheng Khuman (Nambol) and two from the banned organization PREPAK (People Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak), No.40916 SS Pvt Sunil Singh, son of Late Shyam Kishiore, of Kwaikaithal,No.40917 SS Junior Pvt Th Chittaranjan Singh, son of Th Bajabidu, of Kwakeikhal, the release said.
Out of these five surrenderees three has had education upto 10+ 2 and one is a graduate and has also served as a lecturer in an educational institute in Bhopal before joining the militant outfit, it further said.
‘These misguided youth finally surrendered along with arms to Y Joy Kumar, DGP Manipur Police and Major General CA Krishnan, IGAR (South) in simple surrender ceremony held at HQ IGAR (South), Mantripukhri yesterday’ the release said.
The family members and relatives of the surrenderees were also present on the occasion it aded.
Arms and ammunition laid down by the surrendered militants included, one AK Rifle with magazine, 4 Pistols with magazines, 29 live rounds of AK and 15 live rounds of 9 mm ball, the release said.
It claimed the surrender of the militants through Assam Rifles reinforced the faith of locals in the security forces.
Speaking on the occasion, Y Joy Kumar exhorted the youth of Manipur to join the national mainstream and lauded Assam Rifles’ efforts in bringing normalcy in Manipur.
Major General Krishnan, reiterated the commitment of Assam Rifles for ushering an era of peace and prosperity in Manipur.
