IMPHAL, Oct 29: RK Ongbi Ibemnungshi, wife of the chairman of proscribed UNLF RK Meghen alias Sanayaima, has filed a habeas corpus (a petition filed against illegal imprisonment) to the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench, today regarding the reported arrest and detention of RK Meghen by the Bangladesh Police and Indian intelligence agencies at Dhaka.
Speaking to mediapersons this afternoon, the counsel of RK Ibemnungshi, advocate Doren Phurailatpam said that being aggrieved by the arbitrary manner in which RK Meghen has been detained, his wife Ibemnungshi has filed the habeas corpus petition bearing number 122 of 2010 on behalf of the arrestee Meghen praying for producing him in the event of his arrest and for handing him over to the nearest police station or to a police station in his hometown in accordance with due process of law.
It may be mentioned that RK Meghen was reportedly arrested by a combined team of the Indian intelligence agency RAW and their Bangladesh counterparts from Lalmatia area of Dhaka under Mohammadpur Police Station on September 29 at about 12:30 pm while he was traveling in his vehicle bearing registration number Dhaka Metro G-17-0716. It was also in the news that Meghen was handed over to the Indian authorities after his arrest by the Bangladeshi Police and flown to New Delhi in an Indian aircraft. However, the Indian authorities have denied their involvement in the said arrest as well as the report that he was handed over to the Indian authorities.
