IMPHAL, Oct 12: The 12th convocation of the Manipur University will be held tomorrow with the Governor, Gurbachan Jagat as the chief guest.
Chief minister, O Ibobi Singh will be the guest of honor and Prof P.N Srivastava will preside over the function.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the 12th MU convocation, chancellor and the vice chancellor of the university disclosed that foreign languages such as Korean and Japanese will be introduced as language courses in the university very soon.
Further they also said that Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU), which was earlier dissolved would probably be re-established within the ‘Lyngdoh Commission’ by next September. He further stated that although MUSU might be re-instated, should it interfere with the functioning and administration of the University, it would be dissolved again to propagate efficient work and functioning of the office stating that a student comes to university to study and not to become a part of the administration.
The Chancellor also attended to queries raised by the students relating to the availability of books, Wi-Fi and Internet utility despite the facility being available in the university for some time. The idea of organizing a book fair was dismissed by the student body and faculty together as it usually bought in old books outdated in content and structure. He assured the students that library books will be made available on a 1:1 ratio and will be brought on the suggestions and recommendation of teachers and students together.
