IMPHAL, Oct 21: State Agriculture department is targeting to produce targeting to produce 300 to 500 metric tonnes of mustard seeds in zero terraces farming from 26750 hectares of agricultural land in the valley areas during Rubi with coordination with the selective farmers of the state.
Mentioning this Dy. Director Soil Chemist Ph. Ranjendro while distributing the high yielding variety of the mustard oil seeds to recognized farmers at Maklang Loukon today said the initial distributions of the (M-27 variety) seeds have started.
The department has a target of distributing adequate mustard seeds to the farmers at different districts covering a total area of 26750 hectors and state agriculture department is expecting to produce 300 to 500 MT of mustard for the current year he added.
The formal launching of the distribution function by the officials of state agriculture department was organized by the Nungchup Imphal Loumee Sinmee Apunba Lup and Agriculture department.
Dy. Director further said after Maklang loukon the next beneficiary of the programme will be in Thoubal, Bishnupur and Imphal east district.
In hill districts, the department will first harvest the black gram which was planted in different districts this year and subsequently will take up the sowing accurate rabi crops like pea, maize and others.
He further mentioned that last years the agriculture department, the agriculture department distributed 200 metric tonnes of mustard seed pure M-27 variety planted in 1500 Hac to NGOs working under the department.
He added that the Rabi cropping knowledge is also going give very rapidly.
He said the state will be highlighting this during the coming National conference on agriculture which will be held on February 2011.
Prof. Kh Nabachandra CAU also showed the farmers how to treat the mustard seeds before sowing in zero terrace paddy field.
He said that in mustard seed there is no need to fear crop failure like paddy.
