Round the clock health facilities in selected PHCs ; Parijat

IMPHAL, Oct 16: Shortage of doctors in various primary health centres of the state will soon be augmented after recruitment process of 401 MBBS doctors currently undertaken by the MPSC is over, stated health minister Ph Parijat today during the inaugural function of Primary Health Centre cum office of the Registrar of Birth and Death at Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul district.

The health minister further stated that 24×7 health service facility will be made available to some selected PHCs of the state under National Rural Health Mission very soon along with specialities to be provided by 275 specialist doctors who are to be recruited soon by the health department.

He said that facilities for minor operation, delivery and other improved health care facilities will soon be available under the 24×7 service of the selected PHCs.

The Kasom Khullen PHC has now 23 staffs including two doctors, four nurses, four grade-IV personnel, lab technicians and others. 24×7 service will also be introduced in the Kasom Khullen PHC under NHRM from next year, Parijat noted.

He also said that the people of Kasom Khullen sub-division should have proper consultation with the concerned officials of MACS to know and understand more on HIV/AIDS which is highly prevalent in Ukhrul district. The people will also get adequate medicine including ART and other drugs with the inauguration of this PHC, health minister stated.

Parijat also assured to the Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association that the proposal for setting up primary health sub-centre at Kangkum and Mawai will be considered after inspecting the site.

He further stated that he himself will urge the concerned minister to look into the deplorable condition of the roads and bridges connecting Kasom Khullen with other regions of the state which is known to be the oldest state highway.

Parijat also stated that a special transport system will be arranged for Kasom Khullen PHC which is located at a much higher altitude and lambasted the engineers of TP Cell for the architectural defects of the PHC which has violated the privacy of the patients.

The CMO of Ukhrul, Dr. Th Premchand stated that the building construction of Kasom Khullen PHC began long back in 1999-2000 at an estimated cost of Rs 58.83 lakhs under TP Cell, PWD, and completed in December 2002. The said PHC covers 39 villages under Kasom Khullen sub-division and there are four primary health sub-centres, he noted.

The PHC will be able to deliver good health care facilities to the people, he stated.

Dr. Premchand also announced that a hospital management committee inclusive of the villagers and staffs has been formed for better management and development for the PHC.

The facilities that will be provided by the PHC include emergency service, delivery, maternity benefits schemes, general health checkup, ayush clinic, free immunization, HIV counseling and testing, malaria diagnosis and treatment, laboratory and family planning.

The inaugural function was also attended by Jojo Robertson, chairman KKSDDA, O Joykumar, EE TP Cell, Dr. Sh Surchandra Sharma, additional director medical department, Shyamchandra Sharma, SDO/SDM Kasom Khullen and ASHAs.
