Ibobi launches campaign to give a lift to disabled persons

IMPHAL, Nov 19: The Chief Minister of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh officially launched the Badhte Kadam campaign today at the Bheigya Chandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Imphal.

The campaign is a pan-Indian awareness campaign organized by the National Trust, a statutory body under the ministry of social justice and empowerment working under the area of Autism, cerebral palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disability.

The motive of the campaign is to bring about additional changes in the community said the official an official statement.

The campaign will be implemented in the state under the state partners which included the spastic society and concerned districts partners, it said.

Besides this, it stated that the caravan will create awareness of Inclusive education, Paralympic and special Olympic sports, schemes and benefits through photo and poster exhibition, display of aids and appliances used by disabled persons, simulation games, essay writing and signature campaign.

The caravan will depart to Churachandpur, Chandel, Senapati,Bishnupur, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Imphal east with the support of Assam Rifles as part of the caravan as our state partner, it added.

While addressing the gathering the Chief Minister lauded the role of the spastic society for its dedication and sacrifices imparted for the welfare of the disable persons.

The Chief Minister expressed empathy that these disabilities happen due to accident or congenital effects, and everybody must be considerate to them.

He appealed the people not to discriminate against disable persons.

The Chief Minister further asserted that such campaign will boost the morale of the disable.

He also added that the Government has been supporting and will do its best to uplift the welfare of the disable persons.
The Chief Minister also assured of financial assistance to build auditorium or community hall if land is available.

While referring to achievements brought by Th. Joykumar, bronze medalist in Asian Arm Wrestling 2010, swimmer, body builder, tabla player and singer, Chief Minister Ibobi stated that with hard works and sincerity anybody can achieve their goals.

The campaign is a caravan that will create awareness of Inclusive education, Paralympic and special Olympic sports, schemes and benefits through photo and poster exhibition, display of aids and appliances used by the disable persons, stimulation games, essay writing and signature campaign.

The campaign launch was attended by, Dy. Speaker Th Lokeshore, MLA Wangkei E. Suraj as guest of honour and president of the function and the programme was marked by the introduction of various disables who brought achievements in various discipline, presentation of special numbers and entertainment by the disable persons and famous singer of the state.
