IMPHAL, Nov 23: Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, O Joy Singh, who is also leader of legislature wing of the MPP and his family has lodged a complaint against what he says is callous health care management system of the RIMS hospital which resulted in the avoidable death of his son, Subash.
O Joy and his family also demanded a detailed enquiry about the lack adequate asnd appropriate treatment provided to Subash who was admitted to the RIMS hospital on October 25 last but had to be shifted to Shija Hospitals at Langol on the same day following the failure of the RIMS authority to provide Oxygen.
Subash incidentally died at the Shija Hospitals on October 29 at the Shija Hospital.
A formal complaint in this regard has been made to the RIMS authority by O Joy Singh himself on November 20.
Decrying the alleged failure of the RIMS hospital in providing proper medical treatment to his son, O Joy while speaking during a press conference held today at the MPP office questioned the RIMS authority as to why his son who was in coma was not administered with Oxygen.
He also questioned whether it was because of the inexperience of the concerned doctors or the failure of the hospital management to provide oxygen or because of the lack of professional ethics amongst the employees of the RIMS hospital.
Okram Sonia, wife of the deceased Subash while elaborating on the incident that led to the death of her husband said her husband complained of headache, acute fever and some seizure like symptoms on the night of October 24.
However when she wanted to rush him to the hospital, the he declined.
But on the evening of the next day at around 3 pm, he was brought to the RIMS casualty ward after he complained of respiratory problem, Sonia said.
My husband then was taken to the medicine ward, RIMS where doctors failed to give him the care needed, Sonia said adding despite persistent appeals doctors failed to provide proper care and attention. One of the doctor also informed her that as both the kidneys of the patient as well as liver failed there was nothing they could do except pray to the Almighty, Sonia said adding the doctor’s comment led to a heated argument with her on how a doctor could understand failure of both the kidney and liver without performing any tests.
Sonia also informed mediaperson that her husband was then shifted to Shija Hospitals out of frustration with the RIMS hospital attitude.
There is no good hospital or clinic private or govt. for any kind of medical emergency. We cannot expect anything better in future also.
