Chidambaram’s visit to state fixed on Dec 14

IMPHAL, Dec 12: The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has officially intimated to the state government that the Union Home minister P Chidambaram will be visiting to the state capital as invited by the state government to take stock of the law and order situation prevailing in the state.

P Chidambaram’s visit to the state will be for two days as per tentative programme beginning from December 14 afternoon.

Following the official confirmation of the visit, special security measures have begun as resolved in the Combined Head Quarter (CHQ) meeting held on December 9.

The visit of the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram to the state could be one landmark visit as every aspects of development and social impact will be reviewed.

The official source further mentioned that it has confirmed officially that the Union Home minister P Chidambaram will be visiting the state capital on December 14 afternoon next on a special MHA flight around 2.30pm.

The Home minister will be accompanied by an official team of the MHA including RN Rabi, Special Director Intelligence Bureau (IB) MHA, Dr, MC Mehenathan, director (NE-I) of MHA and DG Assam Rifles.

The official source further said Chidabaram will conduct special meeting on security situation of the state at Raj Bhavan Imphal in presence of Governor Gurbachan Jagat which will also be attended by GOC of 57 Mt Div, 3 Corps, high ranking officials of BSF, CRPF, SIB and SB to discussed over all security related problems and every aspects of developmental activities in the state from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Thereafter, the ministerial team will attend an emergency Combine Head Quarters meeting at the official bungalow of Chief Minister on December 14 evening.

During the meeting, it is mostly likely that there could an interaction with the different NGOs and students bodies of the state and discuss existing social and disturbances that been creating in the state due to strikes called from various angle aftermath of the failure of the state government in implementing assurances given by the state government towards bringing welfare of the people, the official source added.

Most importantly, the union home ministry team during their stay in the state will inspect and interact with the representatives of various Kuki militant groups which entered the SoO by visiting at officially maintained designated camps at Singhat and Saikot village under Churandpur district and also at KNO/KNA designated camp at Hengbung village in Senapati district by an Army Helicopter on December 15.

In the meantime, according to a highly placed official source, security measures have been tightened ahead of the visit of Union Home Minister particularly at the area where the ministerial team are to visit.
