IMPHAL, Dec 28: A combined team of Imphal West district police commandos, Thoubal CDO and 39 AR under the supervision of Dr. Ak Jhaljit, Addl. SP (Ops), Imphal West arrested one activist of RPF/PLA from Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions from information garnered from the activist.
While displaying the arrested activist and the recovered arms and ammunitions before the the media persons during a press meet held today at the commando complex, North AOC, Dr. AK Jhalajit, Additional SP (Ops) Imphal, revealed that the activist identified as one s/s Sgt. Thounaojam Subhashchandra alias Sanju alias Bony, 27, son of Manihar, of Wabagai Leirak Achouba was arrested from the house of a rented house at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
The ASP further declaring that the operation was conducted as a part of the initiative of the security forces to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the state, added that in the first incident a combined team of the Imphal West district police and 39 AR, on receiving specific information about the presence of some militant activist in an around Thangmeiband area the team launched a search operation and arrested Subhashchandra from a rented house at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
During the course of interrogation he revealed that arms and ammunitions were kept concealed in some places subsequent to which the combined team along with the Thoubal district police raided the houses of three individuals and recovered the huge cache of arms and ammunitions from the possession of separate individuals identified by the arrested activist.
During the raids police recovered one AK-56 Rifle with one magazine containing 20 live ammunitions and one 9mm pistol with one magazine containing four live ammunitions from the hose of Tongbam Tomba Meitei, s/o (L) T. Thambaljao of Tokpa Ching.
Another AK-56 Rifle with two magazine containing 38 live ammunitions from the house of Ima Memcha of Irengban and one 9mm pistol with one magazine along with six live ammunitions from the house of one Meira Paibi secretary namely Oinam Sumati w/o O. Rajen of Pechi Awang Leikai.
According to AK Jhalajit, additional SP (Ops), the self styled secretary of Division-VI, Joychandra was actively involved in various attack launched against the security forces adding one of his associate identified to be Sapam Sanathoi, 30, s/o S. Budha Singh of Chingtham Maning Leikai, is reportedly absconding.
