IMPHAL, Dec 8: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam visit at Longmai (noney) responding to invitation by Longami circle Congress Committee in a reception cum felicitation function on his re-appointment as president of MPCC for the second term.
While organizing the reception of the MPCC president at Longmai village (Noneh) Longami Circle Congress Committee took the opportunity to hold a one day Congress Workers’ Conference in commemoration of 125th anniversary of Indian National Congress (INC).
The function was however boycotted by some sections of public at Noneh.
The dissenters demonstrated in the Noneh bazar this morning while the PMCC president Gaikhangam along with his workers were on their way to attend the programme.
They tried to block the way by shouting slogans like stop corruption and harassment against people, release 5,27,646 NREGS amount, we boycott MPCC president Gaikhangam corrupted leader etc.
The MPCC president along with the official of ADC however made their ways through the protestors and went straight to the spot where a community hall had been constructed under the BRGF which was later officially inaugurated by him.
The MPCC president along with the official team had come for the main function at MTDC complex but due to some misunderstanding, the protestor blocked him about an hour and for the period some unwanted incident between the protestors and organizer of the function occured.
However after a talk between the leaders of protestor and the MPCC president, the tense situation subsided.
The MPCC president along with the chairman of ADC Tamenlong and Sadar Hill and its members were warmly honour by the organizing committee and a delightful program of gifts exchanging and dances followed.
While speaking to the gathering MPCC president said Congressman might go and come but the strength of Congress will remain.
He further mentioned that Congress has ruled the longest in India and today covered 125 years under the leadership of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other elder Congressman.
Today Manipur has become developed day by day and as long as the people choose the Congress the development in all places will be guaranteed, he said.
He appealed to people living along the NH-53 and 39 not to give disturbances in transport of essential commodities, as these routes are the lifeline of Manipur.
He further mentioned that the Congress government is further taking up more developmental programmes for the state and among them is the railway line construction from Jiri to Tupul.
Autonomous District Council chairman of Sadar Hill and Tamenlong S. Seipu Haokip, and G. Soikem Haomei along with the member of ADC, MPCC officials, Longmai area congress committee members participated.
A big feast was also the highlight of the function.
In the meantime the Longmai village authority release a statement sign by one G. Joseph Gangmei chairman of the authority and Ading Gonmei secretary and submitted a memorandum to chief minister O Ibobi Singh.
