MPP endorses Green Revolution in state

    IMPHAL, Dec 2: The Manipur People Party (MPP) joined the Green Revolution movement being taken up in the state under initiative of the agriculture department with the main objective of keeping sustainable production of different yields in different cropping season and to keep cultivable land in the state a green land throughout the year.
    Khurai Assembly Constituency is targeting to cover more than 1000 hectors of paddy fields by Rabi Crops this Rabi season and for this purpose local MLA Ng Bijoy is planning to install 9/10 RLI for regular supply of water. Construction of 9/10 RLI in the assembly segment is already on progress and some of them are almost completed.
    Ng Bijoy was speaking to mediaperson today at Phaknung Lainingthou Nongpok Chinghei during the inspection tour for Rabi cropping along with the officials of state agriculture department.
    The Khurai MLA further said that for this Rabi season farmers of Khurai are willing start cropping with mustard plant for production of oil and pea plant in 1000 hectors area of paddy field where soil are found wet and suitable for Rabi cropping.
    About the crop compensation for the paddy fields which were recently damaged by flood, Bijoy said concerned authority had visited the effected sites however the process for compensation is yet to completed. He also expressed hope that government will soon distribute compensation in favour of farmers. For more benefits infuture he requested farmers to join the “Crop insurance scheme” as natural calamity is unpredictable, he added.
    He further said that not only from agriculture department, the farmers are getting benefits from departments like Horticulture and planted cauliflower, cabbage, onion, tomato etc. which would help in improving economic condition of the farmers.
    Requesting the state farmers he said farmers should burnt the paddy straw just after harvesting because this would help the field soil in maintaining the moisture and keep the soil wet for long periods.
    During the fields inspection for Rabi cropping, officials of agriculture department led by Ph Rajendra also inspected the fertility of the soil. The team further visited and inspected paddy fields at Samourou Loukon, Yumnam Huidrom, Lamyai loukon, Moirangkampu Sajeb, Koila loukon at Hiyangthang.
    In the meantime, the Lanthabal assembly constituency MLA Okram Ojoy along with the representative of the agriculture department conducted one day workshop on plantation of mushroom at Langthabal Oinam Leikai community hall which was organized by the Loumi Sinmi Chaokhat Khongthang Lup in collaboration with the SDO Wangoi.
    During the inaugural function O Joy Singh disclosed that a person eat good food make him healthy as well good knowledge and work good thing for the society and development. He also appeal farmers not indulge in excessive use of chemical fertilizer which are hazardous to health and appeal farmer to use organic manure.
