IMPHAL Jan 22 : The 8th edition of Director General Assam Rifles Cup, State Equestrian championship held under the aegis of IGAR (South) and organized by Manipur Equestrian Association culminated at Imphal Polo Ground in a glittering closing ceremony today.
The chief guest Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy and Luxmi Roy, president ARWWA were accorded a warm welcome with a traditional reception and presentation of Pot – Lanba. Maj Gen CA Krishnan, IGAR (South) along with Sandhya Krishnan, Shri Buddhachandra Singh president of Manipur Horse riding and Polo Association Dr S Joy Kumar Singh president of Manipur Equestrian Association, Dr Th Jamini Devi and a Host of Civil and Military dignitaries graced the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy, said that the DGAR Cup, State Equestrian Championship is a radiant and eloquent testimony of the Assam Rifles enthusiastic zeal to encourage the strong sports culture of Manipur.” It is also an endeavor to save the original and endangered Manipuri pony from the break of extinction”, he added. The whole ceremony was full of pomp and splendor but the cynosure of the ceremony were the traditional Manipur Pung and Dhol Chalom and the exhibition of Sagol Kangjei (traditional polo) which received accolades from the gathering on the performances.
The Championship culminated with the tent pegging (Team) event. The prize winners included Tent Pegging Senior Individual Th Kaoba Singh of Chingkheihunba Polo Club (sword), L Olendro Singh, KRYPSA (Lance); Junior E Robin Singh of Chingkheihunba Polo Club; Show Jumping Senior -Th Goutam Singh, Imphal Riding Club; Show Jumping Junior – Th Jacob 8th DG Equestrian Championship concludes Singh of Lamyanba Pakhang Polo Club; Show Jumping Junior Girls – Th Tana Devi of Chingkheihunba Polo; Best March past, over all Trophy for 2nd IGAR (South) Junior Equestrian championship and 8th DGAR Cup Equestrian championship went to Chingkheihunba Polo Club. The competition finally was declared closed by the chief guest, which was marked by lowering of the flag and `Beating – the -Retreat` by the pipe band of Assam Rifles.
