New Delhi, Jan 8: The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old man involved in cases of voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation or common intention.
The arrested have been identified as Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Munirka in south Delhi. The accused allegedly assaulted four North East youths on Friday night here in Munirka.
The victims John (25), Richard (23), Calvin (24) and Jenny (24) belong to Churachandpur in Manipur (All names changed).
According to John, the incident occurred when he visited his cousin brother, who lives in Dinesh’s house on Friday around 9.30 pm.
Dinesh Kumar and some unknown locals in 5-6 groups thrashed and punched John repeatedly. John wounded on his forehead and his cheeks. His face and lips were swollen.
When the matter reached to John’s sister Jenny, brother-in-law Calvin, and cousin brother Richard, they approached the accused to enquire the incident. Dinesh Kumar and his friends suddenly thrashed and smashed them with sticks and iron rods.
According to Jenny, Dinesh Kumar threatened her not to report to the police otherwise all of them will face dire consequence. “Dinesh Kumar said I will kill you on the spot if you report to the police,” she said.
Vasant Vihar police station ACP Mohammad Ali said that we will give a good lesson to Dinesh Kumar for his actions. “We will register the case against him so that he will not repeat any more. Don’t worry, we are always ready to help you,” he said.
The helpless victims informed the incident to students’ leaders T Douminlian, general secretary, KSO Delhi and Bruce K Thangkhal. The leaders lodged the complaint at Vasant Vihar police station.
“We informed the case to Deputy Commissioner of Police, he assured to help us,” said Madhu Chandra, spokesperson, North East Support Centre and Helpline.
KSOD general secretary T Douminlian said: “We don’t feel secure in the capital. We are worried for being targeted in many occasions. There are numerous incidents which went unreported. We should be always careful in our day to day lives”.
A case has been registered u/s 323, 341, 506/34 of IPC at Vasant Vihar police station.
