IMPHAL, Jan 5: In a bizarre incident, a woman was killed owing to allegedly wrong treatment administered by a doctor yesterday in a delivery case.
The victim is identified as Thokchom (O) Piyari, 40, w/o Th. Bijoy of Kwakeithel Heinou Khongnembi Thokchom Leikai.
According to reports, the victim was delivering her third child. She was allegedly treated by a TB doctor, identified to be one Sorokhaibam (O) Dr. Memcha w/o S. Bikram of Kwakeithel Laishram who is currently posted at JNIMS as a TB Doctor.
Sources further revealed, inspite of her specialty in the treatment of TB, Dr. Memcha reportedly has been treating patients of other ailments by opening a small home based clinic.
The victim has been consulting Dr. Memcha since her early pregnancy. Following assurance from the doctor the victim yesterday at around 10 am in the morning was rushed to labour room at Dr. Memcha’s home base clinic and gave birth to a baby girl.
Later in the evening her condition deteriorated around 4:10 pm and the victim was rushed to RIMS however doctors at the RIMS declared her brought dead.
In the meantime, in protest against the alleged error committed by the doctor which resulted in the death of a woman, a public meeting was organized at Kwakeithel Makha Thokchom Leikai in the presence of local MLA, RK. Anand, Zilla Parishad and Pradhans.
The meeting strongly condemned the incident blaming the concern Doctor for highhandedness.
A Joint Action Committee was also formed against the death and also further resolved that the lifeless body of the victim will not be claimed by the family until the erring doctor is booked and tried as per the law.
The JAC submitted a memorandum to the chief minister O Ibobi Singh today demanding for the cancellation of the practice registration issued to both doctors (couple) identified as Dr. Ch Memcha Devi, Medical officer, Health Services, Government of Manipur bearing registration No. 10221 and her husband Dr Sorokhaibam Bikram of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai.
