IMPHAL, Jan 28: The National Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comprising of MP Bijoya Chakraborty, MP Kirit Somaiya and former MP Tapirgao have arrived Imphal today for a two-day visit to scrutinize the alleged scams under SPF government including phumdi clearance project of Loktak Lake and primary teachers’ recruitment.
The team will also look into various other scams of the Congress governments in the northeastern states amounting to Rs 10, 000 crores. The preliminary reports of 21 alleged scams in the North-East have been published by the BJP under the banner “Loot in the North-East”.
Speaking to mediapersons today during the inspection tour at Loktak Lake, the National Secretary of BJP and MP of Rajya Sabha, Kirit Somaiya stated that there are as many as 21 scams in the North-East under the Congress regime out of which 11 scams are of Assam, five of Arunachal Pradesh, three of Manipur and one each of Mizoram and Meghalaya. The scams in the Congress ruled states of the North-East are NC Hills scam of Assam, subsidy (transport) scam of Assam, irrigation scam of Assam, Guwahati Municipal Corporation scam of Assam, Guwahati Urban Development (JNURM) scam of Assam, police constable recruitment scam of Assam, teachers’ appointment scam of Assam, national highway scam of Assam, PDS scam of Rs 1000 crores of Assam, flood control scam of Assam, rural development scam of Assam, hydro-power scam of Arunachal Pradesh, SGRY scam of Arunachal Pradesh, PDS scam of Rs 1000 crore of Arunachal Pradesh, mines and mineral allotment scam of Arunachal Pradesh, drinking water mission scam of Arunachal Pradesh, Loktak Lake cleansing project of Manipur, teachers appointment scam of Manipur, road construction scam of Manipur, big dam/irrigation scam of Mizoram and mining (cement) land scam of Meghalaya.
The team will soon submit the final report of the scams to a high level committee of the BJP on February 11, which will then submit the reports to the President of India and other investigative agencies including CBI and Comptroller and Auditor General of India on February 15, he noted.
Kirit further stated that the scam of Loktak Lake cleansing project entrusted to one dubious Delhi based firm, K-Pro Infraworks Private Limited, involves more than Rs 300 crores. As per the preliminary report, the K-Pro was formed only after getting the contract work of the said project. It has exposed the reign of corruption under the Ibobi regime in Manipur, he said.
He also asked the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi as to how the K-Pro was formed after getting the contract work of phumdi clearance and what relation does he have with the Company.
The CBI should investigate the scam into Loktak phumdi clearance project which has been sanctioned by the Planning Commission without having any assessment of the works implemented by the Company. Even the Union Minister for Environment, Jairam Ramesh has not paid a single visit to the Loktak Lake with whose consent the project has been implemented, the MP asserted.
He also said that the BJP should investigate other scams of primary teachers’ recruitment and road construction project of Manipur, and demanded the Central government to expose the names of those persons from India who have accounts at Swiss Bank.
The MP of Lok Sabha, Bijoya Chakraborty stated that the Congress led SPF government of Manipur has been siphoning funds meant for the development of the state for quite a long time. The scams in Loktak phumdi cleansing project, primary teachers’ recruitment and road construction project are clear instances of graft and corruption of the Congress led SPF government. There have been under-development as well as growing problems of insurgency in Manipur owing to the corruption of the state government, she averred.
Moreover, the problems of insurgency and unrest in Manipur can be settled only if the “Kabaw Valley” which was gifted to Myanmar by the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru is handed over to Manipur once again. The BJP will hard press the UPA government on this matter, she said.
The BJP leaders also assured to the fishermen of the Loktak Lake that necessary steps will be initiated from the side of the party to revoke the Loktak Lake (Protection) Act, 2006 under which fishing and other activities will be banned. They also urged the concerned state government to take up rehabilitation process of the 25,000 fisherment of the Loktak Lake before they are flushed out from the lake in the name of conservation.
