IMPHAL, Jan 27: The Medical Superintendent (MS) of RIMS, Professor Y. Mohen, has decried the incident of damaging hospital properties by patient parties and warned that strict action will be taken in the future against such act.

A press conference was held in this connection today at the office chamber of the MS.

    Y. Mohen recalled that a patient identified as H. Bidyananda, 26 of Kongpal, was admitted at RIMS after being transferred from JNIMS (casualty dept) on January 20.

Later the patient expired on January 21 at around 7:40 pm at the male surgical ward in the absence of the doctor for about 15 minutes. Subsequently infuriated patient parties were provoked by the situation and turn their anger on the hospital properties. The patient parties destroy some equipment inside the nursing station.

In his clarification Y. Mohen said that the condition of the late patient was critical as per his report the blood vessels were blocked, intestine started to rot and kidney shutdown totally.

Mohen ruled out the charges of non-availability of doctors as the hospital authority has taken measures to ensure availability of doctors when the need arise in a meeting held recently.RIMS deploys one doctor each at every block as per resolve at the meeting, he maintained.

The Medical Superintendent said that it was very unfortunate that patient parties blame the doctors for the patient’s death without knowing the complication of medical involvement. Besides damaging property, the patient’s parties sometimes attack doctors, which he termed as an unreasonable action and further appealed not to repeat such incident in future.

    Y. Mohen further said that stern action will be taken against such action in the future besides imposing fines for any damage done.
