IMPHAL, Jan 5: At least two jawan of the 12 Assam Rifles was killed in an ambush launched by the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on the evening January 31.
The ambush took place at Somrei about 5km away from Phungyar Police station, Ukhurl District.
The deceased jawan are identified as one PC. Naik, s/o KC. Naik of Orrisa, rifle No. 124699 and Lalminlian Maoyak s/o Malphina of Mizoram, rifle No. 5009680.
Sources also said that two more jawan also sustained injuries.
