IMPHAL, Feb 6: Federation of College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FECTAM) in a press release urges all college teachers to finish the assessment of works related to the university and government within February 17 so they can join the protest whole heartedly.
FECTAM Convenor , M Lokendra in the release states that the state government failure to address the plight of the teachers had led to the protest and the agitation’s will be intensified from February 17 onwards, if the government still remains adamant.
The teachers have no intention of thwarting the academic atmosphere nor is centered on the salary, but the protest is aimed at creating a better future for the students and for betterment of higher education in the state , the release said.
The teachers are not demanding a new salary or service conditions but just demanding the UGC schemes already implemented nationwide and not the modified system which some high ranking officers are trying to enforce in the state, the release said.
Further , the Indian government in keeping par with the educational facilities of other countries , has announced the 11 year plan as the plan for higher education expansion and implemented as a national education policy with enough financial sanctions to meet the requirements. The failure of the state government to acknowledge the policy is unfortunate, as it will affect the quality of higher education in the state as the teachers feel that they have been slighted. The statement reaffirms the stand of FECTAM that the teachers will not acknowledge the modified UGC pay scale ,the release concludes.
