IMPHAL, Feb 19: A team of BCCI officials comprising of former Indian test player and actor Sandeep Patil and former Indian spinner V. Venkataraman have arrived at Imphal today for three-hour visit to inspect Khuman Lampak cricket ground and Luwangpokpa Cricket ground Luwangsangbam.
Sandeep Patil is presently the director of National Cricket Academy, Bangalore and Venkataraman is the bowling coach of the same cricket academy.
Speaking to IFP, the visiting officials stated that the BCCI has sanctioned huge amount of money for the development of cricket pitches in the state, but the works have not been implemented properly.
The officials also said that the BCCI intends to organize various grass-root talent hunt programmes in the state and for this good pitches need to be developed.
The curator of BCCI has also already developed the pitches but the ground staffs are unable to maintain the pitches, the officials added.
Further, the officials stated that the BCCI will soon organize talent hunt programmes and the young cricketers of the state will be trained by good coaches from BCCI.
They also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in organizing various cricket tournaments in the state such as Dr. Kishan Cricket Tournament.
The director of NCA Sandeep Patil will once again visit the state to organize the talent hunt programmes.
A welcome step taken by the BCCI to harness the cricketing talent of Manipur.The state is undoubtedly sports powerhouse of India.The only game i.e cricket ,in fact the most crowd puller game in India is missing from its huge contribution to Indian sports.BCCI has realised the sporting potentiality of this tiny state in size but a lion’s share in Indian sports.Lets expect some contributions towards Indian cricket from this state.All the best.
