IMPHAL Feb 1: Dr Y. Mohen, the medical superintendent of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal held a meeting on January 31 with the clinical heads and consultants to discuss some serious public issues.
According to a release from the media advisor, RIMS, the meeting resolved that the doctors in RIMS shall prescribe only those drugs manufactured by the companies enlisted in the standard pharmaceutical index books like CIMS, MIMS and Drug Today.
The meeting was also of the view that it was not in good taste and proper form to have maligned one senior doctor of RIMS by the Chemist and Druggist Association for prescribing some drugs before the same had been declared as banned. The Drug Controller of the Medical Directorate, government of Manipur, is the appropriate authority to notify certain drugs as banned. The meeting deplored that before such a statutory announcement was made some doctors had been dragged into controversy.
RIMS further banned entry of the medical representatives of the unauthorised drug companies on the campus with immediate effect.
