IMPHAL, Feb 3: At least five cadres belonging to separate underground organizations have been apprehended by the Assam Rifles during separate operations since last two days.
A combine team of 23 and 28 Assam Rifles apprehended five militant cadres belonging to different group in different counter insurgency operation launched today.
A statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S), said that in the first incident discovering the movement of UG cadres in general area of Sagolband, troops of 23 and 28 Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR(South) launched joint operation in the area and apprehended two PREPAK cadre today at around 12.30 am. The individuals were identified as Lukram Thonson alias Tamo alias Khuman, 30, s/o L Homen of Sagolband Lukram Leirak and Chabungbam Premijit alias Taton alias Naobi, 40, s/o Late Ch Manglem of Mayaikoipi Chabungbam Leikai.
The arrested individuals were later handed over to the Singjamai Police station, added the statement.
Further it said that, in yet another incident, troops of 23 Assam Rifles and 12 Maratha Light Infantry under HQ IGAR (South) launched joint operation in general area Poubyket and apprehended three militants belonging to different groups operating in the state from the area at around 1.30 am today. The apprehended cadres were identified as Ravi Prakash of (PREPAK) 32, s/o Kiren Kumar Ibonton of Singhani Makha, Oinam Thingel, Imphal West, L Sheityadeu Sharma of (KYKL) 27, s/o L Rolten Kumar of Thangmiband Yumnam Lweikai Makha, Lamphel and Nagoband Ingo of (UNLF), 28, s/o Late Danishok of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, Imphal West. The individuals were handed over to Mayang Imphal Police station.
