IMPHAL Feb 1: Emphasizing the need for creating a pollution free environment, activists of Rainbow Pao held a rally from Classic Hotel to Wunghon village, Yaingangpokpi today. The main attraction of the rally was the introduction of a zero emission battery powered car, Reva which is manufactured at Bangalore.
Coordinator of Rainbow Pao, Baljit Malik told mediapersons that the need to address the issue of global warming is of utmost importance and we all need to conserve energy and sustain our mineral resources.
Further, he stated that the car is a symbol that can be associated with lifestyle change inclined towards creating a pollution free environment.
The Reva car and Rainbow Pao activists were awarded a warm welcome by the Wunghon villagers and a reception ceremony was accorded. Popular folk singer Guru Rewben Mashangva enthralled the gathering with local numbers and presented a song written about the Reva car.
An elder of the village said ,| “ I am 91 years old and I have known for a fact that cars run on fuel , this is the first time that I have come across a car which drives without petrol , this is amazing†.he said.
Later, the car was presented to Wunghon School by Rainbow Pao coordinator Baljit, The Reva can go 80 kms after 5 hours of charge and seats 2 adults and 2 children. It may be mentioned that Raibow Pao has organized events and musical concerts to protest against AFSPA before in the state and is a non profit body comprising of artists, poets, musicians and journalists.
