IMPHAL, Mar 24: The 2nd 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament organized by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association under the sponsorship of 57 Mountain Division kicked off today at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
The inaugural function was graced by chief secretary DS Pooonia, GOC 57 Mountain Division DS Hooda and MOA vice-president N Shyamananda as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural function, chief secretary DS Poonia said that the Polo originated from Manipur and so the people of the state should feel proud of it.
Altogether 12 teams are taking part in the Polo tournament. The champion will get a cash prize of Rs 15,000 while the runners up will get Rs 10,000.
In the opening match of the tournament, Tekcham Polo Club defeated KRYPSA by 6-2 goals.
Kh Tombi, S Sadananda and S Ibohal scored three goals, two goals and one goal respectively for Tekcham while H Muhindro and W Rupapal scored one goal each for KRYPSA.
