KOHIMA, Mar 19 (NEPS): The upcoming by-election of the 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district, the traditional stronghold of the Congress, has become extremely crucial in view of the former Maharashtra Governor Dr SC Jamir’s alleged planning to enter the fray. However, the Congress has not taken any decision so far who should be its official candidate.
The by-election has been necessitated following the death of veteran Congress MLA, Nungshizenba Longkumer. And his wife Pangerla Longkumer has recently joined the ruling NPF party, reportedly with an eye for the by-poll.
Talking to NEPS here today, senior DAN minister and president of ruling NPF, Dr Shurhozelie expressed confidence of their party’s winning of the upcoming by-election in the 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency.
When asked about his reaction on Dr Jamir’s alleged planning to enter the by-poll fray, Dr Shurhozelie said he had no “comment on it.” “The only thing I have in my mind is that he was Governor of the most prestigious states of the country,” the NPF chief stated adding that, “I sincerely feel that a man like him with his stature and age, should remain above party politics and work for the future of the Naga people.”
Asked if Pangerla would be the party’s official candidate for the 26 Aonglenden by-poll, Dr Shurhozelie said they had not yet decided on her (Pangerla) candidature. “We are watching the situation and doing a serious study at it,” he disclosed. “Sooner or later, we shall take a decision on it and we shall not a mistake.”
