Country boating facilities to promote eco tourism at Keibul Lamjao

IMPHAL, March 28: The 35th foundation day of the Keibul Lamjao National Park was observed today at the Interpretation hall of Keibul Lamjao National Park with A Kharshi-ing, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Government of Manipur as chief guest and organised by the dy. conservator of Forest, Park and Sanctuary Division.
 A Kharshi-ing, while inaugurating the function this morning explained the problems faced by the Sangai and its habitat at the floating Phumdies at Keibul Lamjao Nationa Park which have been targeted by intruders for which the department with the initiative from the state government had started deploying armed forest protection forces in and around the said national park recently.
 Earlier during the inaugural session of the observation this morning L Joykumar Singh, IFS, dy. conservator of Forest, Park and Sanctuary Division in his welcome address explained over the present infrastructure and developmental activities which have been taken up inside the Keibul Lamjao national park with the initiative from the state government.
Later, Dr Kh Shamungou a renowned environmentalist who attended as guest of the function explained over the need of preserving both the food and shelter of Sangai in the park and further expressed his desires to rename the very foundation programme as “Sangai Day.
Further, RK Srivastava, chief conservator of Forest attended as guest of honour reminded the period he spent as DCF of Keibul Lamjao National Park and suggested to utilize modern technology for protection of the park.
Later, Tongbram Budhi Singh, president Social Reformation and Sangai Protection Forum, in his presidential speech draw the attention of the official present in the function for the need of establishing the norms and rules that have been implemented in the protection of Kaziranga National Park at the Keibul Lamjao National Park also only then the degrading status of the Keibul Lamjao National Park will lift to some extend.
He also added that incase of the state government continuing in the present state of neglect, there is possibilities of extinctions of variousnatural habitats and species from the national park.
On the other hand, in connection with the observation today at Keibul Lamjao, two motorcycles, seventeen cycles, twenty one mobile handsets were distributed to the forest staffs of Keibul Lamjao to enhance protection measures in the park. Meanwhile, the chief guest during the observation launched a Country Boating facility to promote eco-tourism in the park.
