IMPHAL, March 15: The Director General of Manipur (DGP), Y. Joykumar and SP Imphal West district, L. Kailun, have been summoned to appear before the committee on Privilege and Ethics of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and submit their written statement on the status report of the incident of assaulting on duty officials of the Assembly by state police force.
According to highly reliable sources, a meeting of the committee on Privileges and Ethics, was held today at 1pm in the office chamber of the Deputy Speaker, who is also the chairman of the committee to examine the breach of privilege in connection with the incident of the assault.
The meet resolved to summoned the DGP and SP concerned and demand written statements from them on the status report. Later an official order was issued in this regards to the concerned, informed the sources.
It may be recalled that three grade-IV employees of the Assembly namely Ngashepam Sanajaoba, Thoudam Ibobi and Oinam Joyjit Singh of Dak Section who were assigned on official duty to dispatch official documents to the Joint Director, MPSC, were assaulted by cops at around 2 pm on March 10, at Khuyathong traffic point even after the employees showed their identity cards and the nature of their work. One among the three employees even sustained severe injuries. In this connection a prayer was intimated to the Secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat by the Manipur Legislative assembly Secretariat Employees’ Association (MALASEA).
Later, S Jayanta Singh, Secretary of MALASEA has urged the ongoing Assembly Session to discuss the matter at the house proceedings and to take exemplary action against the police personnel so such incidents do not recur in future.
Subsequently, the matter after deliberate discussion in the house was handed over to the Committee on Privilege and Ethics, to examine the breach of privilege the following day.
