IMPHAL March 2: Tension erupted at the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Sangaiporou warehouse today morning when irate truckers started protesting the failure of the weighing tools at the warehouse.
The drivers alleged that the FCI godown officials refused to unload goods from more than 50 trucks carrying sugar, maize and rice on reasons that the weighing tools are not functioning. Even though the rice was downloaded without checking the weight, the other items were not allowed to do so. This incident dint go well with the truckers who started protesting .
The truckers further stated that, the weight bridge and the beam scale also seems tampered with, further each truck has to pay Rs 50 as charges for weighing charges, Rs 20 for going inside the warehouse and another Rs 100 for labor charges.
The FCI officials later clarified that the state authorities have given instructions to download rice bags only, but negated the alleged tempering of the weighing tools in the warehouse. They further claimed that the weight bridge has been dysfunctional since Feb 28 and experts have already started repairing and will be ready shortly.
Officials from the weight and measures department also came and inspected the tools. Arrival of the police controlled the situation.
