IMPHAL March 2: A solar powered refrigerator has been installed at the Sekmai community health centre for the first time in the state today. The function held at the CIC was graced by Health and Family Welfare minister L Jayantakumar, Sekmai MLA Heikham Borajao, Health and Family Welfare commissioner Vhumlun Mang and director Joykumar among others.
Minister Jayanta handing over the solar fridge stated that since the apparatus will not require electrical power, medicines and other related items can remain stored for a long time, the technology is revolutionary and will be invaluable in other remote parts of the state where there is less power supply, he said. The storage facility will be an immense help in keeping vaccines active and help in immunization further.
Further, the state government is also planning to install similar solar refrigerators at primary health centers located at Moreh, Kangpokpi, Thanlon, Maram shortly. He stated that the implementation of the solar refrigerator is a historic occasion and has further appealed the health workers to work selflessly in the interest of the public.
