IMPHAL, March 31: The city police has rounded up three members of a gang of thieves and recovered 30 stolen mobile hand sets and accessories.
A press meet was held in this connection today at the City police station where the rounded up thieves along with the recovered items were displayed before media persons.
The three individuals have been identified as Md. Abdul Salam, 29, s/o Md. Kaher of Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai, Md. Majouddin, 35, s/o Jiaouddin of Sekmaijin at present staying at Masjid road and Md. Abdunur alias Ithem, 29, of Sekmaijin.
Briefing media persons the OC of the city police, RK Tejbir, revealed that the gang members were rounded up following the arrest of Md. Abdul Salam who was caught by a combined team of the city police and police commandos in the wee hour of March 29, around 1:30 am from Thangal Bazaar Kasturi bridge area while trying to break in a shop.
The individuals are involved in many major robbery cases in the bazaar area, said the OC adding one member of the gang, identified as one Naba of Mayang Imphal is still absconding and police is on the effort to arrest him.
An ASI of the unit, H. Sanjoy, took active initiative in arresting the culprits, added the OC. The arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody for four days.
