IMPHAL, March 29: The Naga People’s Organisation, NPO expressed resentment over the frequent disturbances and obstruction in the implementation of the on-going National Highway 39 improvement process.
In an emailed statement, the organization has claimed that there are reports and findings of repeated threats and illegal activities looming around the agencies and especially the workers which has hampered and delayed the development works of the NH.
While appealing to the people for collective co-operation, it also maintained that the organization will not compromise on any such irrational activities at the expense of a good NH.
It has further demanded from the various organization/group/individuals who are involved in creating problems for the workers to stop and cease all such works immediately.
It also maintained that taking note of the long pending demands of the general public for better road condition especially the NH-39, the SDSA had repeatedly intervened in the past 5years. Consequently, the government had sanctioned funds for development of the said highway with full blacktopping for which it added, two hot mix-plants, engines, stone crushers and other heavy machineries were installed to complete the development works before the arrival of the monsoon.
However, it added, even after two months of work, due to some Organization/groups continuing with heavy taxations and threats from the work, it has been stalled.
It also maintained that the NPO had recently in some local papers appealed for sincere co-operation and accelerating the NH-39 works. But sadly, till today, some elements continue to insist on threats and withdrawal of the workforce from the site.
It has further appealed to all concerned for a problem-free improvement process of the NH-39. Failing to respect repeated sincere appeals, the NPO will not co-operate with such organization/groups in the future, it warned.
