IMPHAL, March 2: Security forces have claimed arrest of two militant cadres during separate counter insurgency operations launched in different parts of the state.
In a follow up action of the counter operations February 28 where a combined team of the Imphal West Police Commandos, 116 Bn BSF and 5 Assam Rifles had arrested two hardcore cadres of KCP, the Imphal West district Police Commandos today arrested a hard core cadre of the proscribed KCP who is also involved in several crimes including killing, lobbing hand grenades etc. in the general area of Imphal.
The arrested person has been identified as one Lourembam Poncha s/o Lolito of Heirangoithong Awang Maibam Leikai. An official source has stated that the individual was arrested from Singjamei area under the Singjamei police station.One point 32 pistol along with five live ammunitions was recovered by the police. It may be mentioned that the arrested youth along with Chitaranjit who was arrested yesterday by the combined team had been reportedly lobbed a hand-grenade at the residence of executive engineer Thokchom Lokeshwar of Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai. He is also stated to be involved in various other crime related incidents.
In another incident discovering the movement of UG cadres in the general area Bashikhong, troops of 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) launched an operation in the area and apprehended one PULF cadre at around 08.30 pm on March 1. A release of the PRO has identified the apprehendee as one Mujibir Rahaman alias Ethimbi, 33 yrs, s/o Late Nazrudin, r/o Leikai Sura Maniand and was later handed over to Imphal East Police station.
