Security rehearsal for Presidents’ visit held; additional security kept ready

IMPHAL, March 5: The state home department has earmarked an additional 302 personnel of the state forces as a part of the security preventive measures for the proposed two days official visit of the President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil to the state capital on March 10, this month.

According to a highly placed official source, the state home department considering the existing law and order situation of the state and expecting announcement to boycott the proposed visit of the President of India on March 10 afternoon, from various under ground organisations operating in the state, has chalked out a security strategy prior to the proposed visit of the President.

The official source further mentioned that the first round of security rehearsal for the deputed state forces was conducted today at 2nd MR Ground and Air Field of Imphal Airport today. During the rehearsal a total of 152 personnel of the state police force, headed by one Additional SP (Imphal West) with 38 Sub Inspectorss, 35 ASIs and 48 women constables from eight district police stations of the state except Ukhrul were detailed on the security measures for the proposed visit.

It further mentioned that, since the visit of the President will collide with the ensuing sitting of the state Assembly session, tight security arrangement within the greater Imphal areas will remain unchanged. Besides, the state home department has chalked out security arrangement for the visiting President covering the Karak to Mantripukhri stretch as the President will be laying the foundation stone of the proposed IT park at Mantripukhri on March 11 alongwith the launching of the State Wide Network (SWAN) at Mantripukhri.

Additional security will also be deployed between the RIMS gate and Langol, with the visiting President likely to lay the foundation stone of the NIT at Langol.

The source further mentioned, the additional security team of the state forces including 10 separate teams of Manipur police commandos, with heavy reinforce teams of 2nd and 7th MR headed by their respective Assistant Commandants along with 100 Riflemen of 8th IRB and 200 recruited constables from state MPTS will remain on station as duty as security for the proposed visit of the President.

On the other hand, as per the official scheduled prepared by the state home department, the President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil will be arriving at Imphal Airport by an Indian Airline Flight BBJ where a team of state police personnel will give guard of honour and reception of the visiting Indian President at 1.30 pmof March 10.

The official source further mentioned that, soon after landing at the Imphal Airport she will travel by road from Imphal Airport upto Raj Bhavan under a tight security arrangement along the Tiddim and will attended a meeting with Governor Gurbachand Jagat at Raj Bhavan which will start from 3 pm of the day and will be followed by a series of discussion and meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, chairperson of State Social Welfare Advisory Board, chairperson of Manipur State Women Self Helf Group at Raj Bhavan Imphal.

The visiting President will be entertained with cultural programmes at the Raj Bhavan which will be followed by dinner.

It further mentioned that, the President during her visit will inaugurate the Manipur State Informatics Centre and will also lay the foundation stone of IT Park at Mantripukhri Imphal at 9.30 am which will be followed by the launching of SWAN Project and afterwards depart from Imphal at 12.30 pm of the same day by a special Indian Airforce Flight at 12.30 pm, the source added.

In the meantime an official team of the state government led by the Chief Secretary, DS Poonia is going to have an official inspection tomorrow of the IT complex at Mantripukhri and SWAN and other institutes which the visiting President of India is going to inaugurate and lay foundations stones on March 11 this month, the official source added.
